Zimbabwean presidential spokesperson George Charamba has launched a blistering attack on prominent South African political analyst Prince Mashele, after Mashele described Zimbabwe as a “mess” and predicted that Zimbabweans would continue to flood South Africa due to governance failures at home.
In a heated statement posted on social media under his alias Jamwanda, Charamba lashed out, calling Mashele a “plain idiot” and accusing him of opportunistically profiteering off anti-ZANU PF narratives.
“He is a plain idiot who thinks he can grow fat on the anti-ZANU PF sponsored bandwagon!!!!” wrote Charamba.
Mashele’s recent comments, made during a televised interview, painted a grim picture of Zimbabwe’s political and economic landscape.
He argued that systemic misgovernance under ZANU PF has driven mass migration, particularly into South Africa, and warned that the trend would not abate unless Zimbabwe undergoes fundamental change.
“Zimbabwe is a mess. And as long as ZANU PF remains in power, Zimbabweans will continue to flood South Africa,” Mashele said, sparking an angry response from Harare.
Critics of Charamba argue that lashing out with insults rather than addressing the substance of Mashele’s critique only reinforces perceptions of state intolerance, while ZANU PF loyalists accuse Mashele of meddling in Zimbabwean affairs and fueling xenophobia in South Africa.
Mashele, known for his sharp political analysis, has yet to respond publicly to Charamba’s remarks.
