Chitungwiza Mayor Councillor Rosaria Mangoma has expressed heartfelt condolences following the horrific road accident at Hunyani Bridge along Seke Road, which claimed the lives of 17 passengers and two pedestrians early Tuesday morning.

In an emotional statement, Mayor Mangoma described the scene as “too painful to describe” and extended sympathies to the grieving families and the nation at large.

“It is with profound sorrow and a deep sense of loss that I address the residents of Chitungwiza and the nation at large following this morning’s horrific accident along Seke Road at Hunyani Bridge,” she said.

The mayor visited the accident site alongside Acting Town Clerk Mr. Japson Nemuseso and fellow councillors, where emergency responders were still recovering bodies and assisting the injured.

“What I witnessed was heartbreaking  lives cut short, families destroyed, and a community left in shock,” Mangoma added.

The accident reportedly occurred when a haulage truck overturned, crushing a commuter omnibus packed with early-morning commuters. Only two people were pulled out alive from the wreckage, while others perished on the spot.

Mayor Mangoma also called for urgent national dialogue on road safety, urging authorities to implement stricter regulations and improve infrastructure, especially on high-risk routes like the Seke Road corridor.

“This tragedy must serve as a wake-up call. We cannot afford to lose more lives on our roads due to preventable accidents,” she said.
