A tragic road accident at the Chitungwiza Bridge has claimed the lives of 19 people, including 17 passengers in a commuter omnibus and two pedestrians, after a haulage truck overturned and crushed the vehicle beneath it.
According to eyewitnesses, the horrific crash occurred during peak traffic hours when the heavily loaded truck reportedly lost control, veered off course, and overturned landing directly on a stationary kombi carrying passengers toward Harare.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but the scale of the devastation left only two survivors, who were pulled from the mangled wreckage with critical injuries. Both were rushed to Chitungwiza Central Hospital and remain in intensive care
