In a bold social media statement that has reignited political debate, former opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has described his decision to walk away from the MDC and later the CCC as “the best” move he has made in his political career.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Chamisa posted,“The best decision I ever made in my leadership journey was to walk away from MDC & CCC. You will thank me later.”
The statement, brief but loaded with meaning, has sparked widespread speculation about Chamisa’s intended meaning with some however criticizing him for leaving his party in the hands of Tshabangu.
Chamisa parted ways with the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) following internal leadership disputes and later founded the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in early 2022. However, CCC itself became mired in confusion, with rival factions and contested leadership emerging, culminating in his abrupt departure from the party in early 2024.
Since then, Chamisa has kept his political cards close to his chest, working behind the scenes on what he has described as a new, people-driven movement yet to be officially launched.
Chamisa’s tweet has drawn a mixed response from supporters, with some praising his courage and foresight, while others remain skeptical, urging him to urgently unveil a clear roadmap.
