The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has issued a strong warning to motorists and travellers who are resisting searches and refusing to comply with law enforcement officers at roadblocks, particularly along the Beitbridge border post.
In a statement released last night, ZACC spokesperson Simiso Mlevu expressed concern over a growing number of incidents where individuals have been seen deliberately defying security procedures, especially during the commission’s ongoing anti-corruption awareness campaign in Beitbridge.
“We note with concern that some travellers, motorists, and members of the public are resisting searches at security checkpoints following an awareness campaign held in Beitbridge,” Mlevu said.
She reminded the public that all roadblocks fall under the jurisdiction of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), who are legally empowered to conduct searches and enforce compliance.
ZACC also urged travellers to honestly declare goods and pay the required customs duty, stressing that adherence to these protocols promotes efficient trade and travel.
Mlevu reaffirmed ZACC’s commitment to tackling corruption, saying the fight requires strong inter-agency collaboration and public cooperation to uphold law and order.
The week-long campaign in Beitbridge is part of ZACC’s broader initiative to promote transparency and accountability at critical border points and transport corridors.
