
A planned book launch by a political figure Job Sikhala was violently disrupted in Masvingo this weekend, as suspected hired thugs stormed the venue, seized copies of his book, and tore them apart, effectively shutting down the event.
Eyewitnesses described the incident as barbaric and deeply disturbing, with the attackers allegedly acting with impunity as they destroyed the books and threatened attendees.
No arrests had been reported at the time of writing.
Sikhala, who hails from Masvingo, was set to officially launch his book, believed to reflect on his political experiences and long detention.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with critics calling it a shameful attack on freedom of expression and a tragic betrayal of a son of the province.
