Finance and Economic Development Minister Prof. Mthuli Ncube faced tough questions in Parliament after it emerged that an additional US$26 million was required to cover cost overruns on the controversial Trabablas (formerly Mbudzi) Interchange project in Harare.

During a heated Parliamentary session, Hon. Prosper Mutseyami (MDC) challenged the minister to explain the sudden budget increase, saying the government had already approved a full budget for the project.

“Can you substantiate to the House as to how this supplementary US$26 million would just come about when the budget had already been sorted? How do you account for that, Hon. Minister?” asked Mutseyami.

The question reflected growing concern about transparency and accountability in large-scale infrastructure projects.

The Trabablas Interchange touted by government as a flagship development under Vision 2030 has already drawn criticism over alleged inflated pricing, lack of competitive bidding, and delays.
