ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba has ignited political and social media backlash after demanding the deportation of Zimbabwean-born political commentator Rutendo Matinyarare.

Mashaba’s comments came in response to Matinyarare’s recent criticism of KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, whom he accused of failing to combat crime and corruption in South Africa’s police force for over two decades.

“This man is toxic. When ActionSA comes into power, deporting Rutendo will be among the first things we do. He must never return,” said Mashaba in a stern public statement.

Matinyarare, known for his bold views and Pan-Africanist stance, has not backed down. In a follow-up video, he doubled down on his critique of Mkhwanazi, claiming that “South Africans deserve better leadership and real accountability in law enforcement.”

Mashaba’s call has sparked sharp debate, with critics accusing him of xenophobia and political grandstanding. Supporters, however, argue that foreigners who “interfere in local affairs” should face consequences.
