A multimillion-dollar vehicle deal has exploded into a bitter standoff between fuel tycoon Kudakwashe Tagwirei and car dealer Farai Matsika, following a dramatic reversal by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga over a planned donation of luxury vehicles to Zanu PF.

Sources say Tagwirei paid over US$15 million in cash for a fleet of 200 vehicles, including Toyota Land Cruisers, Hilux GD6s, Fortuners, Ford Raptors and Rangers with the understanding they would be donated to the ruling party. The vehicles are currently parked at FaraMatsi Motors’ Graniteside depot, awaiting instructions that may never come.
But in a stunning twist, Chiwenga is said to have vetoed the donation, warning that Zanu PF would not be accepting the vehicles under current circumstances a move that has left Tagwirei livid and demanding his money back.
Insiders say the Sakunda Holdings boss feels “used and politically ambushed”, accusing Matsika of profiting from a deal that now hangs in limbo. Tagwirei reportedly believed the donation would boost his standing in the party’s succession race, amid whispers of a brewing rivalry with other power players.
Matsika, whose company made millions facilitating the purchase, is refusing to issue a refund, saying the vehicles were procured under clear instructions and delivered in full. He insists the agreement was final and the political aftermath is not his responsibility.
