Zimbabwe Independent editor Faith Zaba will spend another night behind bars after her bail hearing was postponed to tomorrow. Prosecutors said they need more time to verify medical records submitted by her legal team.
Zaba was arrested over a satirical column that allegedly undermined President Emmerson Mnangagwa. The article described Zimbabwe’s SADC chairmanship as a “trade union of dictators.”
Her arrest has sparked outrage from media freedom advocates who say satire is not a crime and warn that Zimbabwe’s media space is under renewed threat.
Zaba’s bail fate will now be decided in court tomorrow.
