HARARE – Outspoken preacher Apostle Talent Chiwenga has taken aim at Prophet Walter Magaya, accusing him of manipulating followers through deceptive spiritual practices this time over the controversial sale of so-called “anointed apples” for US$5.
The rebuke comes after Magaya hosted an all-night prayer service where he reportedly spent hours praying over apples, claiming they carried divine healing properties.
Attendees were encouraged to give a seed offering in exchange for receiving the fruit, though Magaya said even those who did not “seed” would still be given apples but for them to work, a seed was still required.
Chiwenga dismissed the act as a spiritual gimmick.
“Instead of praying for people, he prays for apples. Then he sells them for US$5. To those who follow Magaya, we are praying for you. One day, the Lord will visit you,” Chiwenga said during a sermon broadcast on social media.
He further accused Magaya of using sorcery, alleging that the popular prophet was initiated by the late Nigerian televangelist T.B. Joshua, and that charms were allegedly being used around the Yadah Ministries grounds.
“There are certain charms from the western region which they sprinkle on the soil around the church. As soon as one steps into the premises, their brain is frozen they stop thinking,” Chiwenga claimed.
He described followers of Magaya as being under a spiritual fog, no longer capable of rational thought.
“People in that church are under sorcery. Their minds are not working anymore.”
Chiwenga sarcastically encouraged congregants who had received the apples to eat them quickly before they rot, saying any benefit would be nutritional rather than spiritual.
