1. The mayor of Sedibeng District Municipality, Lerato Maloka and her driver were kidnapped on Friday in Alberton and were found unharmed by the families on Saturday. This comes after she held a press briefing last week where she asked for an investigation into corruption at the municipality. She wants the investigation to focus on senior council officials who she says have paid themselves over R1 Million from council coffers. The Mayor was previously removed in a Vote of No Confidence in January but was re-elected a few weeks later.
2. The full bench of the Western Cape has ruled that the appointment of John Hlophe onto the JSC is unconstitutional as it erodes the public’s confidence in the judiciary and undermines its legitimacy and effectiveness. This comes after the DA took the matter to court.
3. 23 South Africans return from Myanmar. They responded to IT and customer services jobs in Thailand only to find themselves forced to work in cybersecurity and romance scams in Myanmar.
