In a fiery sermon that has sparked debate, Apostle Talent Chiwenga has called on women living and working abroad to continue showing respect to their husbands, despite shifting gender roles in foreign countries.
Speaking passionately, Apostle Chiwenga said, “Mukadzi kapfugame achipa murume kudya ariku America” literally urging wives to kneel and serve their husbands food, even while overseas.
His remarks come in the wake of rising concerns around spousal visas, where many Zimbabwean men, once breadwinners back home, find themselves in domestic roles washing dishes and taking care of the home as their wives become the primary earners abroad.
Apostle Chiwenga warned women against taking over leadership roles in their marriages simply because they now earn more.
He went further, saying, “Kana uri jockey mbuda mumarriage cause murume is too handsome kugara nejockey” meaning, if a woman becomes controlling or domineering (“jockey”), she should leave the marriage because the man is too valuable to be dominated.
