Zimbabwean businessman and social media personality Wicknell Chivhayo has hit back at former national cricket star Henry Olonga after Olonga publicly announced that he had renounced his Zimbabwean citizenship after he was left without any nationality for nine years.
Taking to social media, Chivhayo dismissed Olonga’s relevance back home, writing in Shona:“Ko wavhuzwa here nhai chikomana kuti une ma-nationality mangani??? Kana isu kuno hatikuzive katsi yemunhu.”
Chivhayo went further, throwing personal jabs at Olonga’s appearance, saying:“Hatina vanhu vanogera dino vobatanhidza nekarasta kumashure. Ma hairstyles engochani dziri mhiri kwemakungwa.”
Olonga, who made history as Zimbabwe’s first Black cricketer and later became known for his political activism, recently made headlines when he revealed that he had officially given up his Zimbabwean citizenship, a move that stirred reactions across social media.
Chivhayo, never one to shy away from controversy, seized the moment to remind Olonga that his departure from Zimbabwe and shift in identity meant little to those still in the country.
Known for flaunting his wealth and for sharp-tongued social media posts, Chivhayo’s comments sparked a wave of reactions online, with some defending Olonga’s right to choose his path, while others sided with Chivhayo’s nationalistic stance.
