Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has vowed to take a hardline stance against land barons encroaching on public spaces, as the city intensifies efforts to reclaim and restore sporting facilities in high-density suburbs.

With rising concerns over illegal land allocations, the City of Harare has begun demolishing unauthorized structures set up on public land.

During a visit to Budiriro, Mafume underscored the city’s determination to protect spaces meant for youth development and sports.

“Anyone who invades a sporting facility, we will demolish those structures,” Mafume warned firmly.

“People must not challenge our commitment. Clinics, schools, sporting fields these are off-limits. We won’t let land barons rob us of our future.”

He also highlighted that the city is working closely with local MPs to revive and develop recreational areas dedicated to young people.
