Alick Macheso’s recent performance at Shamwari Joe Hotel in Mvurwi turned into a heartfelt celebration when Glendale-based traditional healer and aspiring sungura musician, Sekuru Nyangatayani real name Peter Chimbizi showered the legendary artist and his band with US dollar notes in a show of deep appreciation.

Nyangatayani, well-known for his unwavering admiration of Macheso, has made it a personal tradition to honor the sungura icon whenever he performs timeless classics.

Speaking after the performance, Nyangatayani expressed his gratitude, describing Macheso as both a mentor and a major source of artistic inspiration.

“As an upcoming sungura artist, Macheso’s music deeply inspires me,” he said. “I always feel moved to show my appreciation, especially when he performs his classic hits.”

He also acknowledged the lasting impact of the late Tongai Moyo on his musical journey, commending Macheso for keeping Moyo’s legacy alive by regularly featuring his son, Peter Moyo, in performances.

“Tongai Moyo sparked my passion for sungura, and I truly respect Macheso for preserving that legacy,” he added.
