Prominent businessman Wicknel Chivhayo has issued a strongly worded statement denouncing recent reports alleging corruption and financial impropriety in his business dealings, describing them as a “manufactured scandal without substance.”
Chivhayo responded to what he called “so-called financial intelligence reports” from South African and Zimbabwean institutions, which have recently circulated in the public domain. According to him, these reports falsely insinuate criminal conduct, corruption, or money laundering related to legitimate, contractually binding commercial transactions.
“Executing a contract with the Government and receiving payment is common practice and cannot be criminalized,” Chivhayo stated, adding that the scale of the transactions does not imply any wrongdoing. He emphasized that neither he nor his affiliated companies have committed any offence and that all his business dealings are underpinned by lawfully signed agreements.
Chivhayo also dismissed any links between himself and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), asserting unequivocally that he has never conducted business with the institution. “ZEC is on record confirming no contractual relationship with me. It’s not only false, but utterly illogical to suggest otherwise,” he said.
He alleged that the reports and accusations are part of a broader political agenda aimed at discrediting him and undermining state institutions. According to Chivhayo, the campaign against him is driven by exiled political fugitives and elements of the opposition, whose own ambitions have been rejected by the electorate.
“There is no complainant, no missing funds, and no crime committed,” Chivhayo insisted, labeling the allegations a “witch hunt” and a “phishing expedition.” He stated that he remains undeterred, and reaffirmed his support for the ruling ZANU PF party and President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
“I am not afraid of any lawful investigation. I have absolutely nothing to hide,” Chivhayo said.
He concluded by reiterating his ambitions to become Zimbabwe’s youngest billionaire and stated that no threats or propaganda will shake his resolve.
