Lawyer and Advocate Fadzayi Mahere has issued a cautionary message to podcasters and content creators regarding the legal implications of discussing sensitive and controversial issues.

In her recent statement, Mahere emphasized the importance of exercising caution when hosting guests on podcasts, particularly when the conversations touch on criminal activities.

Mahere highlighted a concerning trend where guests may inadvertently confess to criminal acts during recordings, potentially exposing both themselves and the host to legal repercussions.

She pointed out that under section 83 of the Criminal Code, procuring or pimping women for prostitution is a serious offense. She warned that some discussions or confessions, if not carefully managed, could be construed as evidence of criminal conduct, even if the guest was unaware of their implications at the time.

The advocate stressed the importance of legal guidance for content creators who wish to explore controversial topics.

“Podcasts are a great platform for open discussion and raising awareness. However, it’s crucial to remember that what you say and what your guests disclose can have legal consequences,” Mahere stated.

She urged hosts to seek legal advice to ensure their content remains within the bounds of the law and to avoid inadvertently facilitating or encouraging illegal activities.
