In a moving tribute shared on social media, businessman Wicknel Chivhayo reflected on the enduring legacy of his late mother as he marked the fourth anniversary of her passing.
His heartfelt message honors her sacrifices, resilience, and the profound influence she had on his life, while also recognizing the women who supported his family through difficult times.
Wicknel recounted how, after losing his father in 1990, his mother stepped into the roles of both mother and father to her six children. She worked tirelessly travelling to South Africa to sell goods, pleading with school authorities to keep her children in class, and tirelessly striving to make ends meet.
Her unwavering dedication and strength left a lasting impression on her son, who credits her for instilling values of hard work, compassion, and determination.
“Everything I am today is because of her,” Wicknel wrote. “I wish I could thank her just once more.”
He shared the pain of missing her voice and presence, especially on Mother’s Day, a day that now carries bittersweet memories.
The tribute also paid special homage to Mai Chitsinde, a woman from his mother’s church who stood by her side during her final days, especially during the challenging times of COVID-19 when hospital visits were restricted.
Wicknel expressed deep gratitude for her loyalty, love, and faithfulness, which provided comfort to his family when they needed it most.
To honor her, Wicknel announced a generous gift a brand-new Toyota Fortuner fully paid for, along with US$20,000 split between her and other women from his mother’s community who stood with them in prayer.
He emphasized that no gift could truly match her selfless love, but that his appreciation and gratitude are boundless.
