Opposition Member of Parliament Desire Moyo of Nkulumane has sent a strongly worded letter to Local Government Minister Daniel Garwe, questioning his recent stance on the Ndebele king in Bulawayo.
The letter ends with a provocative phrase: “Minister Garwe, Ungabe udakwe yini na,” which translates to “What have you been drinking?”
This fiery correspondence follows Minister Garwe’s dismissal of the Ndebele king after being recognized by the mayor of Bulawayo David Coltart, where he stated that the government does not recognize the traditional authority of the king.
The minister’s remarks have sparked controversy and heated debates over cultural recognition and respect for indigenous traditions.
In his letter, MP Moyo condemns the minister’s stance, emphasizing that the kingship has been an ongoing and respected institution for many years.
He argues that dismissing or undermining this traditional leadership is unfair and biased, reflecting a disregard for Ndebele cultural heritage.
