In a surprising development, the case of jailed journalist Blessed Mhlanga has taken a new twist as the state announced plans to prosecute Heart and Soul TV (HSTV), a subsidiary of Alpha Media Holdings, alongside Mhlanga himself. The charges are related to allegations of inciting public violence.

The announcement was made during court proceedings where Mhlanga, who has been in custody since February, challenged his continued detention before Magistrate Ruth Moyo.

Mhlanga’s legal team, led by lawyer Chris Mhike, revealed that the state had unexpectedly changed its stance mid-hearing.

Initially, the prosecution requested a postponement to allow for the setting of a trial date.

However, during the proceedings, the state indicated intentions to proceed with charges against HSTV and Mhlanga for incitement, signaling a potentially broader legal assault on media outlets and journalists critical of authorities.
