In a stern warning to detractors, Ziyambi Ziyambi, a high-ranking member of Zanu-PF’s Politburo and the Minister of Justice, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs, asserted that any attempts to impeach President Emmerson Mnangagwa will be futile without the backing of the ruling party.

Speaking at a Zanu-PF provincial coordinating committee (PCC) meeting in Chegutu, Ziyambi emphasized the party’s dominance in Zimbabwe’s parliamentary system, stating that individual ambitions cannot eclipse the collective will of Zanu-PF.

Reflecting on the recent calls for protests led by expelled party member Blessed Geza, Ziyambi lauded the party’s grassroots supporters for rejecting these disruptive actions.

“We thank Zanu-PF members and the citizens at large for ignoring the calls for street protests,” he declared, labeling the failed demonstrations as a sign of desperation from individuals disconnected from the party’s core values.

Ziyambi highlighted the significance of party unity and the imperative of adhering to Zanu-PF ideology within the parliamentary framework.

“In Zimbabwe, our Constitution establishes a party-based parliamentary system, meaning that MPs do not possess the autonomy to operate outside of party directives,” he explained.

He underscored that any impeachment motion would need to traverse the strict ‘whipping system’ of the party, which enforces conformity among its members.

He cautioned that any MP seeking to act against the party’s interests risks being recalled, asserting, “Should any member of Parliament pursue objectives contrary to Zanu-PF, they will be removed and replaced by someone who adheres to our mandates.”

The Minister’s statements were supported by Edna Madzongwe, a long-serving Senate President and now a member of Zanu-PF’s Elders Council, who affirmed that the party’s cohesion makes anti-Zanu-PF actions untenable for any member
