In a surprising revelation, journalist Hopewell Chin’ono has disclosed the names of several opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) who were present during a government land distribution event held on yesterday.

It appears that a select group of MPs from the opposition are benefitting from a scheme traditionally dominated by the ruling ZANU-PF party.

Chin’ono took to social media to break the news, confirming that these opposition MPs were part of a group of 70 officials who received land parcels yesterday. The MPs named include:Bridget Nyandoro, Nohlahla Mlotswa, Sengezo Tshabangu, Charles Moyo, Julia Makuwire (known as Nonoza), Caston Matewu.

Interestingly, while Moyo, Mlotswa, and Tshabangu were included in the official documentation shared with Chin’ono by a high-ranking government source, they were reportedly not physically present at the event.

The government official revealed that they received parcels of 300 square meters each, except for Tshabangu, who was granted a significantly larger 2000 square meter stand.

Matewu, who was present at the meeting but has publicly stated he is not receiving land, adds another layer of intrigue to this unfolding story.

The distribution reportedly drew participants mainly from the ZANU-PF party, with these specific opposition MPs representing a rare exception in a landscape often criticized for its lack of inclusivity.

Chin’ono noted that this marks the first instance of opposition MPs receiving land allocations.

In his post, he added that “the rest are now having cold feet after the exposure,” hinting at the potential internal conflict and backlash within the opposition ranks following this announcement.
