In a recent public statement, Bulawayo Mayor David Coltart addressed circulating rumors following an article that claimed he was seeking to ban renowned musician Winky D from the highly anticipated Bulawayo Shutdown Show.

In a tweet that swiftly gained traction, Coltart labeled the article as “pathetic” and emphasized that he has no intention, nor the authority, to prohibit Winky D’s participation.

The mayor’s tweet read, “Uproar as Mayor David Coltart seeks to ban Winky D from Bulawayo Shutdown Show. A pathetic article which disregards the facts. I have no intention of banning Winky D from @CityofBulawayo not that I have that power in any event.”

He went on to clarify his support for artists like Winky D, stating, “On the contrary, I welcome him and other artists – this is bound to be a wonderful event.”

Coltart expressed concern over the suitability of the proposed venue for the event, arguing that there are numerous alternative locations better equipped to host such a large gathering.

“This is an unsuitable venue – there are plenty of other excellent venues,” he stated, suggesting that the city could assist the organizers in finding a more appropriate site.
