Prominent Zimbabwean journalist and activist Hopewell Chin’ono has responded to former opposition leader Nelson Chamisa’s vision for a new Zimbabwe, emphasizing that the country’s development aspirations should not distract from the critical issue of corruption.
Chamisa has often spoken about his dreams of a modernized Zimbabwe, complete with bullet trains and efficient infrastructure.
However, Chin’ono believes that such ambitions are misguided unless the underlying problem of corruption is addressed.
“I love bullet trains because I have ridden in them,” Chin’ono said. “I love spaghetti roads because I live in a country that has them. But the critical thinking question is; why don’t we have them where they could actually help us? It is because of corruption.”
