
Zimbabwean businessman and CEO of Intratrek Zimbabwe Wicknel Chivhayo, has been cleared to proceed with the 100MW Gwanda Solar Project after being acquitted of misappropriating US$5.6 million last year.
The Harare Magistrates Court had previously ruled that there was an unreasonable delay in the prosecution, leading to the acquittal.
The project had faced intense scrutiny, with Chivhayo being criticized for his involvement with other countries before completion the Gwanda project.
Energy and Power Development Minister July Moyo has however announced that the project is now ready to move forward.
July Moyo stated that the Supreme court ruling in December 2023 cleared and confirmed the validity of Zimbabwe Power Company and Intratrek work.
He the said both the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) and Intratrek were required to fulfill their obligations under the original contract.
