Namibia is in mourning following the announcement of the passing of Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, the Founding President of Namibia and a pivotal figure in the country’s liberation struggle.

He passed away on February 8, 2025, at the age of 95.

In a heartfelt message, the current President of Namibia, Dr. Hage Geingob, expressed profound sorrow over the loss of a leader who was instrumental in shaping the nation’s identity.

Nujoma’s contributions to Namibia’s freedom are celebrated, with the President stating, “Our Founding Father led a long and consequential life during which he exceptionally served the people of Namibia.”

Dr. Nujoma’s legacy is revered across the nation, having marshaled efforts for independence and championed the ideals of democracy and social justice. His tireless activism and leadership during the liberation struggle culminated in Namibia’s independence from colonial rule on March 21, 1990.

In his statement, President Geingob extended condolences to the Nujoma family and the wider Namibian community, emphasizing the profound impact Nujoma had on the nation’s history. “He was a father to our nation, and his spirit will continue to guide us as we navigate the challenges ahead,” he stated.
