The Zimbabwe military has been deployed to stop widespread poisoning of water by powerful cartels that are mining using powerful equipment in Zimbabwean rivers. This has resulted in large amounts of chemicals such as cyanide in Zimbabwean rivers.
Cities such as Mutare and Bulawayo no longer have clean water with some rivers in Matabeleland completely closed off dur to the use of heavy equipment.
