The Timeslive reports that South Africa’s governmemt spent R52.8m (US$2,9 million) on deporting illegal immigrants between April and August.
The information was revealed by Home affairs minister Leon Schreiber, in a recent Q&A session in parliament.
Schreiber said 19,750 undocumented immigrants were sent back to their countries of origin, costing the government R52,817,656 (US$2,995,289.27).
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe topped the list of countries whose nationals were deported from SA.
