Former Botswana President Ian Khama addressed his tribesmen in Serowe on Saturday after a surprise appearance before a magistrate court in Gaborone last week.
Khama is facing several criminal charges including unlawful possession of firearms.
During his address, Khama announced that he will be formally taking back the throne which he had handed over to Regency while he was President.
The return of Khama after his self-imposed exile is expected to reenergise the fortunes of the Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF).
He was accompained by his niece Princess Talia Khama and other Bamangwato royal family members.
