SADC has a formal mediation structure. It consists of three primary components:
The Panel of Elders (PoE): Composed of former heads of state and government, they are the primary mediators in regional conflicts.
The Mediation Reference Group (MRG): This group supports the PoE and provides technical expertise.
The Mediation Support Unit (MSU): This unit offers logistical and administrative support to the mediation process.
