The Central Committee of the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (Frelimo), in power has elected Daniel Francisco Chapo, as a candidate for President of the country.
Mozambique is expected to hold general elections on October 9th.
Chapo, 46 received 94.1% percent of the vote, against 5.9% percent of his opponent Roque Silva in the internal elections.
The election of Chapo has ended a wave of speculation that the current leader Filipe Nyusi will run for a third term.
Chapo is the governor of Inhambane Province. He is a lawyer by profesdion.
He was born after Mozambique’s liberation war, making him the first ‘born free’ to lead Mozambique if his party wins the general election.
