Attempts to mediate the bitter fight between former Botswana President, Ian Khama and current President, Mokgweetsi Masisi have failed.
A spokesman for Khama revealed that both Khama and Mr Masisi arrived in Angola at the invitation of SADC, for a face to face meeting between the two. He said on arrival, Masisi refused to meet with Khama, and instead held a private meeting with Angolan President, Joao Goncalves Laurenco.
In a government statement, Masisi said he was only in Angola to brief President Lourenco on the self imposed exile of Khama and his family. He said the meeting was requested by former Presidents of Nigeria and South Africa on behalf of Khama, following failed local negotiations which were being mediated by former Presidents, Festus Mogae and former Vice President, Ponatshego Kedikilwe.
Masisi said the dispute between him and Khama will be solved on the political arena and not through negotiations.
This prompted Khama to challenge Masisi to a boxing match at Freedom Square.
