Army officers who seized power in a coup in Gabon on Wednesday have gained massive support from the general public.

The coup leaders have named General Brice Oligui Nguema as the country’s transitional leader.

Ousted President Ali Bongo Ondimba is facing accusations of election fraud and corruption since he began ruling the country nearly 14 years ago.

Following the coup, people in the country’s capital were seen celebrating and embracing soldiers on the street.

People have be seen shouting liberated and waving the Gabon flag.
