Zimbabwean born, Mpumalanga Health Department IT Director, Jasper Chimanzi, is a corruption fall guy who has been on suspension since 2021.
City Press reports that the suspension of Chimanzi (59), came after he was falsely accused of having three ID numbers.
The newspaper says an investigation at the Department of Home Affairs revealed that Chimanzi’s three ID numbers are a result of errors in the Home Affairs systems and not fraud by Chimanzi.
However, after he was cleared, the Mpumalanga Health Department still refused to reinstate Chimanzi.
Chimanzi was also accused of signing for IT goods worth R19 million which were never delivered by IT company, Epitech.
However, an investigation revealed that the undelivered goods were signed for by IT Deputy Director – Sydney Nkosi, who was never disciplined.
The goods were only delivered months later to the head office in Mbombela, after an investigation started by Ifirm to look into the transaction.
Chimanzi won an arbitration hearing held on 30 March 2022, but was still not reinstated by Duduzile Mdluli, the Head of the Mpumalanga Department of Health.
