Professor Lindiwe Majele Sibanda (59), who was recently appointed chair of the CGIAR has left the University of Pretoria for France.
CGIAR is the world’s largest publicly-funded network of 15 research centres, dedicated to transforming food, land and water systems in a climate crisis for a food- and nutrition- secure future.
Prof Sibanda was the Director and Chair of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Food Systems at University of Pretoria.
Professor Sibanda told the Sunday World Newspaper that she has been a board member of CGIAR since 2021 before being appointed as chair in 2022.

1. She is a board member of Nestlé.
2. She is a former Vice President of Africa’s green revolution based in Nairobi.
3. She received a government scholarship to study livestock production in Egypt.
4. She has a PhD in goat production from the United Kingdom.
5. She has a cattle farm which she runs with her son.
