Namibia’ ruling party  SWAPO (The South West African people’s organisation of Namibia) has lost lost control of the Windhoek municipality after losing 7 of the the council seats contested in the just concluded council elections.

SWAPO previously occupied 12 of the 15 counixl seats.

Namibian Broadcasting corporation reports that out of the 60 339 votes, Swapo got 20 250 votes securing 5 seats.

Adding on, Independent patriots for for change managed to secure 4 seats, Affirmative repositioning secured 2 seats, Rentless people’s movement secured 2 seats, PDM secured 1 and Nudo got 1 seat.

If opposition parties decide to form coalition, SWAPO could become opposition because they only have 5 seats.
