Speaking to SABC News last night, Human rights lawyer, Dr Alex Magaisa announced that award winning journalist, Hopewell Chin’ono, was at the Law and Order section,meaning that he is in police custody.
He described the arrest as a divertion by the Zimbabwean government to cover up scandals that are happening within the Government.
“Journalists are allowed to criticise the government and this arrest is more salt on media freedom in Zimbabwe,”said Dr Magaisa.
He described Hopewell as a friend and colleague who has been fighting for the goodwill of the Zimbabweans,and he is worried about his safety in the custody of the Zimbabwean police.
He said that Hopewell face charges of contempt of court.
It is alleged that officers from the presidency carried out the arrest,making it a direct order from the Presidents orders to arrest him.
