MDC-T Acting President, Thokozani Khuphe, yesterday asked ED Mnangagwa to set up a GNU to solve Zimbabwe’s current problems.

Speaking at the party’s head office in Harare, Khupe said Zimbabwe is a rich country and yet Zimbabweans are hungry and have nothing to show for all the wealth in the ground.

Khuphe said Zimbabwe did very well during the last GNU between Mugabe and Tsvangirai and the economy performed well.

Khuphe said Zimbabwe are suffering from hunger and poverty and said the government should move Zimbabweans to the promised land.

Khupe said during the last GNU, shops, schools and businesses had closed but re-opened when the GNU came about.

Khuphe said Mnangagwa should move as fast as possible to set up the GNU.

Commenting on this statement, author and political commentator, Terence Simbi said Zimbabwe needs tough decisions to be made.

He said a GNU can solve the problems in Zimbabwe if it is inclusive. He agreed with Dr Khuphe that Mnangagwa should call for a dialogue that eventually lead to a GNU.

Simbi said there are various interest groups in Zimbabwe and just negotiating between the political parties will not work. He said there are tribal, generational and commercial farmers interests that need to be addressed.
