Simba Chikanza of Zimeye says South Africa will see a huge increase of undocumented immigrants from Zimbabwe due to heavy government crackdown, poverty, economic backlash and poor governance.
In an interview with SABC, Chikanza said there is an estimated number of four million Zimbabweans in South Africa already seeking greener pastures however, the influx is likely to increase to eight million as the situation continues to deteriorate in Zimbabwe.
Simba said, the influx comes amid a crackdown by government on dissent following a planned but failed demonstration in the country.
There has been heavy police and military presence in most of the country’s major towns and cities to thwart any risings.
Moreover, Emmerson Mnangagwa is seeking to suffocate dissent in the country by drafting laws to criminalise campaigning against one’s country.
