WATCH LIVE as Gambakwe unpacks the confirmation by Zimbabwe Republic Police of the death of Sergeant Milika Laison (43) who died after collapsing while driving to Beitbridge after being tortured at Ntabazinduna where the ZRP is carrying out a re-training exercise for detectives who are seen as being aligned to Chiwenga and the shadowy Zimbabwe People’s Army. Before his death, Milika wrote a note to other detectives revealing his ordeal including being made to stand in the cold and having cold water poured on him and 12 others for 12 hours.

In response, the ZRP said:

  • Cause of Death: Sergeant Milika Laison died in a road traffic accident on 25th June 2026, while driving a Honda Fit vehicle towards Masvingo on the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road. He was not coming from the Ntabazinduna Police Academy as alleged.

  • His Whereabouts: He was on his way from Beitbridge, where he was stationed at CID Beitbridge, and had engaged his Officer-In-Charge there on 20th June 2026.

  • Academy Records: The police trainers at Ntabazinduna Academy have no record of Sergeant Milika checking in on 19th June 2026, when other trainees arrived.

  • Resignation: CID Headquarters advised the academy that Sergeant Milika had tendered his resignation notice and was not coming for training. His name was subsequently removed from the list of absent trainees.
