Caston Matewu, an opposition CCC Member of Parliament for Marondera Central, has teamed up with Dr. Paul Tungwarara, a presidential advisor from the ruling ZANU-PF party. On May 13, 2026, they will hold a rally to launch the government’s Presidential Borehole Scheme in Matewu’s constituency. This makes Matewu the second CCC lawmaker to publicly work with the ruling party.
A public dispute has occurred between former coach Marian Marinica and vice-captain Marshall Munetsi. Marinica left Munetsi off Zimbabwe’s 2025 AFCON squad, citing a calf injury from playing for Wolves. Munetsi disagreed publicly, saying he was recovering well, his club offered medical help to ZIFA, and he should have been picked. He said he felt betrayed and hurt, especially after playing through personal struggles to help the team qualify. The argument ruined their relationship, and Munetsi was left out of all future matches under Marinica. After Marinica left, caretaker coach Kaitano Tembo recalled Munetsi for the Unity Cup in London (June 2026). Tembo wanted a public apology from Munetsi, believing the player’s public criticism was divisive and hurt his authority. Marinica had felt Munetsi’s radio interviews and emotional social media posts were trying to “divide the national team.”

Several high-impact US Dollar data releases are scheduled for 2:30 pm:
-
Core CPI month-over-month: forecast 0.3% (previous 0.2%)
-
CPI month-over-month: expected to slow to 0.6% (previous 0.9%)
-
CPI year-over-year: projected to rise to 3.7% (previous 3.3%)
At 4:30 pm, the Australian Dollar will see the CB Leading Index month-over-month (medium impact; previous 1.1%).
China’s CPI came in at 1.2% (actual vs. 0.9% forecast), meaning inflation is heating up more than expected. Another reading at 2.8% is much higher than the 1.7% forecast. Higher inflation often raises export prices. When CPI beats expectations, it pressures the central bank (the People’s Bank of China) to tighten policy. To cool rising prices, the central bank may raise interest rates or reduce the money supply.
A 1,400 km rail corridor between Gauteng and Durban will undergo a forensic audit to assess its poor condition. The audit is led by the IDC on behalf of Infrastructure South Africa (ISA). This corridor is one of the government’s seven infrastructure priorities and is seen as the backbone of South Africa’s rail freight network. Freight volumes fell from 12.6 million tonnes per year (2017/18) to 6.7 million tonnes (2024/25), and revenue dropped from R2.6 billion to R1.3 billion. Transnet lacks capital to maintain and expand rail infrastructure, hurting commodity exports and imports via Durban. The Department of Transport has a plan calling for R2 trillion in investment to overhaul South Africa’s 23,540 km rail network. 40% of the network has limited economic or social value, and 20% is ring-fenced (mainly coal and iron ore exports).
