A married Mutare man, Kumbirai Mugona, from Mutare, Zimbabwe, known for his involvement in a widely reported incident where he allegedly stabbed a soldier to death after finding him with his girlfriend in October 2025.
According to reports, Mugona, also known as “Gweja,” found the soldier, Abbiton Mangena, in a compromising position with his long-time girlfriend, Lucy Saunyama. A physical altercation ensued, during which Mugona fatally stabbed Mangena. Witnesses described the attack as frenzied. Mugona later turned himself in to the police.
The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday, October 30, 2025, in Westlea, shocking residents.
āThe incident happened just after midnight when Mugona stormed into Lucyās room and found the soldier naked. A fight broke out, and in a fit of rage, Mugona allegedly stabbed Mangena several times on the head and stomach,ā a neighbour said.
Mangena was rushed to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Witnesses said the scene was covered in blood.
