Economic Performance and Outlook

 

  • Vision 2030 & Growth: The nation must remain focused and disciplined on stability and growth in the march towards Vision 2030 [02:24]. Economic growth is projected at 6.6% in 2025 [02:34].
  • Fiscal Stability: Government is implementing policies to maintain currency stability of the ZiG and inflation [14:04].
    • The country’s foreign currency receipts reached US$10.4 billion as of August 2025 [14:50].
    • The World Bank recently ranked Zimbabwe first among the top 10 countries for significant progress in foreign currency reserves accumulation [15:28].

 

Sectoral Highlights

 

  • Agriculture:
    • Reported recovery with record harvests of tobacco, maize, and wheat, attributed to the Agriculture Food Systems and Rural Transformation Strategy [02:49].
    • The Pfumvudza/Intwasa program has empowered over 3 million households [03:17].
    • The area under irrigation has expanded to 221,000 hectares in 2024 [04:36].
    • The modernization of the Grain Marketing Board is ongoing, with the construction of 14 new artificial intelligence silos, adding 750,000 tons of storage capacity [05:19], [05:35].
  • Mining: The sector has seen increased investments in gold, lithium, iron, and steel production [06:21]. The government is committed to finalizing the Mines and Minerals Amendment Bill and weeding out irresponsible miners who cause pollution and degradation [06:50], [07:19].
  • Manufacturing: The sector registered a 15.3% contribution to GDP [08:10], with success in steel, cement, dairy, cotton-to-clothing, and pharmaceutical value chains.
  • Tourism: The sector’s solid performance led to Zimbabwe being awarded the “Best Must Visit Destination in the World” [10:13]. The Tourism Amendment Bill is called to be finalized [10:35].

 

Infrastructure and Social Development

 

  • Infrastructure: Infrastructure projects are progressing through innovative funding models [12:08]. Top priorities include upgrading the Harare-Chirundu road and border posts. The Mbudzi Interchange is now operational [12:59], [13:13].
  • Health and Education: The health sector is undergoing a significant development program focusing on human resources and modernizing infrastructure [17:18]. In education, the Digital Ambassadors Program aims to equip young people with ICT literacy [18:37]. The government also adopted the Zimbabwe National Artificial Intelligence (AI) strategy [18:50].
  • Empowerment: New laws have been promulgated to eliminate gender imbalances and promote gender equality [19:16]. The National Youth Empowerment Strategy 2026-2030 was launched to harness the potential of young people [20:04].
