The following positions have arisen within the City of Bulawayo’s WORKS DEPARTMENT:
(1) ARCHITECT – GRADE 10 (1 POST)
| 1. | MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES/ JOB SUMMARY | • Create building designs and highly detailed drawings • Identify the materials to be used and specify the requirements for the project • Conduct site visits and construction supervision • Evaluate and advise on environmental, legal and model building by-law issues • Assess what surveys are required before work can commence • Prepare and present design proposals using computer-aided design (CAD) and traditional drawing methods • Produce, analyse and advise on detailed specifications for suitable materials or processes to be used • Appraise on the performance of buildings which are in use and produce maintenance management information • Use advanced software like CAD or ArchiCAD in preparing architectural maintenance management information • Enforce compliance of all architectural procedures, processes, guidelines and standards |
| 2. | QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS | • A Degree in Architectural Studies or equivalent • A clean Class 4 Driver’s Licence |
| 3. | EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS | • At least 4 years’ experience in a similar work environment |
(2) QUANTITY SURVEYOR TECHNICIAN – GRADE 9 (2 POSTS)
| 1. | MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES/ JOB SUMMARY | • Read structural and architectural drawings • Take stock of dimensions with appropriate description of materials from drawings • Carry out site measurements and verify Claim Certificates |
| 2. | QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS | • A Higher National Diploma in Quantity Survey or equivalent • Must be registered with the Council of Quantity Surveyors • A clean Class 4 Driver’s Licence |
| 3. | EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS | • At least 4 years’ experience in a similar work environment |
(3) ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN – GRADE 9 (1 POST)
| 1. | MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES/ JOB SUMMARY | • Program new electronic and electrical components • Perform routine maintenance on electronic systems • Troubleshoot and repair faults in electronic circuits and equipment • Calibrate and test electronic systems for optimal performance • Maintain detailed records of work and update documentation • Manage inventory of electronic parts and tools |
| 2. | QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS | • A Higher National Diploma in Electronic Engineering or equivalent • A clean Class 4 Driver’s Licence |
| 3. | EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS | • At least 4 years’ experience in a similar work environment |
(4) SENIOR ARCHITECT ASSISTANT – GRADE 8 (1 POST)
| 1. | MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES/ JOB SUMMARY | • Recommend construction plans to Architects • Prepare and develop layouts, elevations, cross sections in construction drawings. • Carry out dimensional surveys of buildings • Apply survey notes in architectural drawings with precise specifications • Use advanced software like CAD or ArchiCAD in preparing architectural plans • Implement architectural project drawings and plans • Maintain all architectural drawings, plans, client specifications and survey notes • Execute design processes and coordinate design information |
| 2. | QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS | • A Diploma in Architectural Studies or equivalent • A clean Class 4 Driver’s Licence |
| 3. | EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS | • At least 4 years’ experience in a similar work environment |
(5) ELECTRICIAN – GRADE 8 (2 POSTS)
| 1. | MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES/ JOB SUMMARY | • Diagnose electrical faults and malfunctions in various electrical systems • Analyze electrical schematics and blueprints to understand system configurations • Install high voltage electrical cables according to safety regulations and engineering standards • Perform repairs and replacements of faulty electrical equipment, ensuring optimal functionality • Conduct preventative maintenance on high voltage electrical infrastructure • Troubleshoot control systems and protective devices • Prepare detailed reports on diagnostic findings, repairs performed, and maintenance activities |
| 2. | QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS | • A Skilled Worker Class 1 in the Trade of in Electrical Engineering • A clean Class 4 Driver’s Licence |
| 3. | EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS | • At least 4 years’ experience in a similar work environment |
(6) LINESMAN – GRADE 6 (1 POST)
| 1. | MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES/ JOB SUMMARY | • Install and maintain over and underground electrical lines • Attend to street and tower light faults and repairs • Supervise subordinates |
| 2. | QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS | • Skilled Worker Class 2 in the Trade of Electrical Engineering • A clean Class 2 Driver’s Licence |
| 3. | EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS | • At least 2 years’ experience in a similar work environment |
