The Shingai Itai Consortium, led by Philisiwe Sibiya and Sam Kachikoti, has acquired Choppies’ remaining South African outlets, trading as Jwayelani, along with a meat-processing plant. Shingai already has a presence in retail: it runs African Basket, a distributor of Zimbabwean products in the SA market.
The deal comes as Choppies continues to exit regional markets to concentrate on its Botswana base.
