Former Guni High teacher in Gutu South, Christopher Bishi Chikomo who was among dozens of teachers abducted and severely tortured by Zanu PF in the July 2008 Presidential election run-off has died. Chikomo died at Masvingo Provincial Hospital yesterday.
Tortured teachers (detained in torture camps for 2 weeks) experienced permanent poor health since then after doctors confirmed damaged organs including kidneys, liver etc. Mujeyi Chamba, a teacher at Rumizha Secondary died at the torture camp where victims were assaulted with logs and soaked naked in cold weather in the chilly winter.
Suspects of the murder have not been arrested 17 years later and Bishi never enjoyed good health since then. Mujeyi left a daughter who had to drop out of boarding school because his wife could not pay fees for the child since she was unemployed. Bishi will be buried in Hwendedzo near Nerupiri in Gutu on Thursday. Gutu South where Zanu PF’s Pupurai Togarepi is the current MP has been labelled one of the most politically violent in Zimbabwe.
