WATCH LIVE as Gambakwe unpacks the new Immigration Amendment Bill which may allow Nyokayemabhunu to apply for alternatives to detention (e.g., electronic monitoring) at his October/November 2025 hearings if courts recognize his political activism as a persecution risk, potentially securing his release pending case resolution.
However, the bill accelerates potential deportation post-conviction, aligning with Minister Leon Schreiber’s enforcement push (e.g., Operation New Broom), which could fast-track his handover to Zimbabwe if fraud charges stick, heightening risks for Masiwa, who alleges SA-ZANU-PF collusion. Enhanced judicial oversight might strengthen challenges to extradition on human rights grounds, buying time for asylum claims under the Refugees Act.

1. Lenacapavir – Reports indicate an anticipated national rollout starting in January 2026, three months ahead of initial plans.
At the 12th South African AIDS Conference held from September 8–11, 2025, at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg, Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Joe Phaahla delivered the closing keynote address on September 11, focusing on South Africa’s HIV/AIDS response. He highlighted the potential of long-acting injectables like Lenacapavir, backed by R520 million from the Global Fund, to revolutionize prevention for vulnerable groups, while emphasizing the role of AI and digital tools in enhancing treatment and surveillance, amidst challenges like TB-HIV co-infection and global funding uncertainties.
2. On September 11, 2025, Nigeria’s Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu, revoked the 5% excise tax on telecommunications services, including voice calls and mobile data, as confirmed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). Initially introduced in 2020 to boost non-oil revenue, the tax faced backlash for increasing costs for over 171 million subscribers and telecom operators already burdened by multiple levies. Its removal, effective immediately, aims to enhance affordability, promote digital inclusion, and ease industry pressures amid recent tariff hikes and economic challenges. Stakeholders like ALTON and NATCOMS welcomed the move, though concerns linger about potential new levies, making this a significant step in Tinubu’s telecom reform agenda.

Jeniffer Dube buried in her yard by her step daughter. Jennifer Dube, a mother of one, vanished on May 2nd and was found deceased on September 2nd, buried in a shallow grave in her own garden. Her body was bound with wires and wrapped in cloth.
The community of Magotsha was shocked by the revelation that Jennifer’s alleged killers are her stepdaughter, Linna Mzimela, and Linna’s boyfriend, Nkosi.
Jennifer’s aunt, Monica Nsingo, explained that Jennifer was the wife of the late liberation war hero Isaac Mzimela, and Linna was Isaac’s daughter from his first marriage. The relationship between stepmother and stepdaughter was reportedly tense, allegedly fueled by a bitter dispute over Isaac’s retirement package and rent money from a house in Bulawayo, which had been simmering for years.
In May, these long-standing tensions allegedly escalated into violence. Nsingo recounted that when Jennifer went missing, Linna claimed her stepmother had gone to Lupane for a passport, but Jennifer never returned.
