A 26-year-old Mozambican traditional healer, Aizeque Zacaria Cumbuia, has appeared before the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court in South Africa following his arrest in connection with a disturbing criminal case.
Cumbuia was taken into custody on 7 August 2025 after police uncovered human body parts, including a woman’s private organ, at premises linked to his sangoma practice in Brits. Authorities believe the case may be tied to the 2023 murder of a 20-year-old South African woman.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed that Cumbuia could face multiple charges, among them contravening South Africa’s Immigration Act, as investigations suggest he may have been staying in the country without proper documentation.
Two other suspects, including another traditional healer, have also been arrested in connection with the case. Prosecutors have indicated they will oppose bail, arguing the matter is severe and ongoing.
“The gravity of the charges and the complexity of the investigation make it necessary for the accused to remain in custody,” said an NPA representative.
