Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator Richard Tsvangirai has raised alarm over alleged corruption at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, accusing staff of extorting grieving families.

Tsvangirai claimed that bereaved families are being forced to pay USD 200 for an immediate postmortem to be conducted. Those unable to pay are allegedly told to wait up to two weeks because the doctor is said to be “unavailable.”

“In their grief, many desperate families feel they have no choice but to pay. Exploiting people at such a vulnerable moment is unacceptable and calls for urgent investigation,” Tsvangirai wrote.

He urged the Ministry of Health and Child Care to act swiftly to stop the alleged abuse.

The claims have intensified ongoing concerns about corruption and mismanagement in Zimbabwe’s health sector, where chronic staff shortages, drug stock-outs, and poor service delivery have long fueled public anger.

Officials at Parirenyatwa have not yet issued a statement responding to the allegations.
